Don Burt explores multicomponent phase equilibria and crystal chemistry in natural rocks. This approach involves fieldwork in a variety of petrologic settings in order to determine mineral compatibilities and element partitioning under a wide range of physical and chemical conditions. Other interests involve oxidation-reduction, acid-base, ion exchange processes, ore deposits, and the Moon and Mars.
